Waikaremoana Great Walk

The school holidays will soon be over for me (Jane only took a couple days off in December- saving up leave for mid year.) Still, we've managed a few outings over what's been a pretty disappointing summer, weatherwise. (I know I shouldn't grumble about the weather when I see what's going on in the northern hemisphere...)

Our walk around Lake Waikaremoana was absolutely stunning with great scenery, fantastic company and better than average weather. We walked about 50km in 4 days, mainly through native bush and usually not too far from the edge of the lake. The climb to Panekiri Hut for the final night was tough going but oh so worth it for the views.
